What else for Ipod?

What else can Ipod add? we have music, photo and video, what else can it have?

I could see an Iphone (obviously an iPod+cell phone) with all the features of a regular phone and ipod 5th generation and have access to iTunes wirelessly so it won't really be an Ipod as much as an Itunes library. And because iTunes can be wirelessly accessed you can obviously go to the music store and get music/videos or just listen to the 30 second previews.

But seriously, what else can apple do to the ipod? I don't imagine an ipod 6th generation (at least not like the mockups) so what can they do to ensure that they keep selling ipods?

well think about it all the way from 1g to 4g they have changed the design, improved battery life, HDD size and other things, then iPod photo came along, added picture and color screen, then the 5g, added video support.

so whats next? probably changing the design again (like the touchscreen mock-ups have shown) probably increasing battery life, probably a bigger HDD, and who knows, maybe there will be an iPhone. Or downloadable games, or even a full gaming device by Apple.

WiFi would've been nice so I could download stuff directly to the iPod and make an already awsome video player even better on the fly.

but the problem with wifi (if it has total internet access) is that people will illegally download things on it and Itunes will stop making as much money.

I don't agree with that... while yes people will us it illegally there will be many others that won't know how to use it or won't know how to do it illegally and will go with buying stuff for the convienence. Look at iTune's video content, apparently people do actually buy it. I don't believe in it and I think it's another way to sucker people into buying something they shouldn't have to. Look at Verizon's picture, texting and online content for another example.

Yeah, but for a huge company like Apple to implement a WiFi connection into one of its devices with the knowledge that they are giving the masses the potential to steal media would be suicide. People would jump all over Apple. They can't just say "oh, well most people won't do it...look at how many people buy videos from iTunes when they could get them for free elsewhere." That's like a teacher giving students permission to cheat on a test because "most students don't cheat in the first place."

My two cents.

Probable upgrades would be Bluetooth and/or WiFi along with natural ones like battery life, etc. I'm waiting for iPod Bluetooth 2.0 sollutions for my truck. And with WiFi, I think Apple won't jump right to total internet access, just to the iTunes music/video store. This would seem more approriate to start it off.

Yeah, very stupid. Then again, Sony hasn't launched a giant online music/video megastore, so what have they got to lose?

I feel like an idiot for just relizing this, I know there is probably something that contradicts this that I can't remember but: Itunes is on computer, computers that can illegally download music. If they don't then, they won't know, Itunes probably won't lose a cent, and with those people just getting an Ipod itunes will make money. It's not going to deter people from buying or influence illegal downloads. If you say, "well Ipod will get blamed for having a product with the capabilities of illegally downloading" well ipod is made by APPLE a computer company, they make computers that can illegally download music.

Internet on an Ipod won't do anything to the number of people buying or downloading music

I guess we can agree to disagree. I believe it will make a substantial difference.

An interactive (public) game/app (namely organizer) API, not necessarily Flash.

Improve the player. Allow the user to categorize things they way they want.

Basic touchscreen capability.

Audio recording with a built in microphone.

Include the charger and a simple dock back in the package.

Full video out for the UI (including the game/app api), not just video and photos.
