New iPod mini's with 8 - 10 GB ?
The new 8 & 10 GB microdrive's will come out later this year, do you think aplle'll bring out new iPod mini's ???

that'd be really cool...

but what 'bout the price ???

there's still only 50 $'s between the mini and the big one with an adaptor...

i Hope they'll bring new iPod mini's and make them cheaper....with an an adaptor...

I definitely think the iPod minis will go up to 8-10 GB, but that it will be next year, as they just refreshed the line in February.

sounds good, actually now it could hold 2,000-2,500 songs please correct me if i'm wrong. i would buy one if it also had color screen.

Melik 07-27-2005 06:48 AM

at the time it's not really smart to buy an ipod mini 6GB. (if the size is not important for you)

because you can get 20 GB with color screen and AC adapter for only 50$ more...

they must reduce the price of the minis...

Hi to all!!!! I think instead of worrying about bigger space. I really think we ALL need to worry about the ipod doing what we were told . Like better battery life. Not as many probles with software, syncing etc. I have the HP+ and I purchased my daughters first. Returned my Apple ipod and bought the HP. Besides better battery life, The tech support is GREAT. ! tech call in the first 90 days from apple. Limited phone hours. HP is unlimited tech support 24 7. That is good enough for me. The only bad thing no colors available. At least the minis are greay. I LOVE MY HP ipod. Check it out

I bought a 6GB iPod Mini in April and I love it. I would love to see Apple expand the iPod Mini line making a color screen and bigger capacities (such as 8-10GB). If they came out with a 10GB, color screen Mini, I'd definately sell the 6 gigger for that! I think it will be early next year though. Maybe Christmas time. No earlier though, IMO.

My boyfriend had a good comment to add to this discussion:

"Why would anyone want to buy this?"

Everyone is gonna say: the more space - the better.

But think about it:
The iPod mini 6 GB is 250 € (249,01 - to be exact)
The iPod 20GB is 299 €

There is no space for 8 and 10 GB in between and no other mini-player has this capcities. Otherwise this is no argument of course because a) should apple care? b) there is no other player with 6GB as well.

Okay, so now you are gonna say: They'll drop the prices...
To what?
So they'll drop the prices for the 6GB to 199 € and the 4 GB to 150€, which would mean they would have to drop the price of the shuffle 1GB to 99€ and the price of the 512MB-shuffle to .... what??? 50 Bucks??? They wouldn't earn much on them... and it would be too cheap for apple... helloooo APPLE - they usually make hardware where you can easyly spen a few thousands for one workstation. Okay 50 Bucks is to cheap - then let's say 70€... "why buying a 512 when for 30 Euros/Dollars you get 1GB" This would mean either drop the 1GB or the 512MB.
Anyways... over 200 Euros we have now built our space! so we have the 250 € for the 8GB and 299€ for the 10 GB.... but wait... for 299 you get an iPod 20GB...
hmmmm no 8GB.. only a 10GB for 250€... and we have killed another - though not yet released - iPod!
And still "why buy a 10GB-device when for 50 Bucks more you get twice the capcity"
[edited] well.... now you only get about 20% the capaticy for that price... but still: the shuffle thing is logical[/edited]

Of course I like the style of the mini but for now there is a bigger gap to fill between 20GB and 60GB...

riceman 07-29-2005 02:23 PM

do the mini's still -not- display album titles during play?

ForeverG5 07-29-2005 08:58 PM

Mine doesn't show album titles, no.

They're more likely to just upgrade capacities rather than drop prices and retain the current capacities. For example Apple may put out an 8GB mini at the same price as the 6GB is today and then put out a 2GB mini using flash memory at the 4GB price point while removing the 4GB from sale. The idea is that most people are either going to need quite a bit of space on a small music player or not that much. If they need space they'll go for the 8GB, if they don't they go for he 2GB. A middle option isn't needed.

Similarly the full sized ipod line can now be seen as just two models, the 60GB ipod for those who want a lot of space and the 20GB for those who don't. I would imagine Apple has done some quite extensive customer research on this (I recived quite a long questionarrie via email a few months ago) and concluded that the 'middle' option is unpopular to the degree that it is unprofitable. Therefore they dropped it.

This idea has merit and IMO makes a lot more sense than other companies such as creative who launch a plethora of models at every possible capacity and price point. If the price difference between the low capacity and high capacity model is not that great then the actual difference in capacity is not important.

OK... This could be possible!!!

...and then put out a 2GB mini using flash memory at the 4GB price point while removing the 4GB from sale.
People WILL NOT accept this... half the space - same price!
I wouldn't wanna be the person who has to explain that this player is better now... with less capacity!
I don't think they'd make 2 minis with 2 different kinds of memory!

It's more possible that they make a 2GB shuffle with a screen!

The problem is:
There are some players with 5GB which is between 2GB and 8GB...
You need something in between becauses of the competiors!

I find your system too risky!

Melik 07-30-2005 05:53 PM

da kommt wohl jemand aus deutschland, wa ? ;)

imo, they should replace the 6GB's iPod's with the new 8GB Color Screen Mini's.

(that'd make 250$)

the 20'ers gonna stay the same...

at least the gap would be a lil' bit smaller...

the main mistake was to make the mini's so 'xpensive...

and now it's all a system...

if they reduce the mini's, they've to reduce the shuffle's too...

and that'd be a big difference in the system...

like blueberry said, at the time it's more logical to buy a 20'er than a 6'er mini

(color screen, 40-50$ worth AC adapter (afaik) , 14GB more memory)...

Jump_Blueberry 08-02-2005 11:41 AM

Yep, aus deutschland, du auch ? ;)

well... even with a 8GB it would be more logical that people buy a 20GB!
Because I doubt that they would add a color-display and you would get an adapter as well.

You have a point there!
But on the other hand:
Do people really want a mini with that many GB???
Or are people who want more then 5GB rather 20GB-consumers?

Melik 08-02-2005 03:30 PM

nee, nich mehr ;) war 11 jahre dort, jetzt wohne ich aber in der türkei ;)

maybe you're right, but i'm sure that there are more ppl that want a 8GB insted of a 6GB :P ;)

or they reduce the price of the minis and add color screen and apadter...

that'd be more logical, but maybe not for apple ;)

I totally agree. Minis are aimed towards the younger crowd, IMO.
