A combination for me. I had seen the iPod around for a while but held of buying it to see what else came on the market.
I also did a bit of shopping around comparing prices at different places and countries. I thought about buying while while I was in the States in May, but doing the sums taking into account the exchange rate, buying adaptors, I just went bugger it and bought a month after I came home. It's a purchase I don't regret one little bit !

We're not all kids, you know...a lot of us don't have to "save up" to buy something that's $300.
![]() But most of us can't just go impulse-spending $300 all the time, either. It was something I thought about for quite awhile, and decided the iPod was the DAP to get. So I guess my answer is "neither". |

For me it was a combo. four years ago i started to save up my money. (Im 13, do the math) although at that time i had never even heard of the ipod, and didnt even have my walkman yet. But i figured (correctly) that instead of buying candy every time i got five dollars, id save up for something big. that was an invaluble decision. ;-)

I never just buy something that costs 300 bucks without giving it some thought. I'm not the person who can toss money on a whim, especially on a high-tech gadget like an ipod, that sounds like such a guy thing to do. I have been brown bagging it for the past couple of weeks and it's made a difference, believe me. I'll be purchasing my ipod this weekend if all goes well.

i was always keen on the idea of getting an ipod, but never really gave it serious consideration until i started to save for a year out in australia. i sold my car and needed entertainment for the walk to work, and there was no way i was gonna travel australia without all my music in my pocket
