why coldplay? i know that guy named his kid apple (a deal with the devil----i mean jobs?) and that they released that super useful solar power ipod charger! part of the reason people paid fifty extra dollars for the u2 edition was because you got a 50 dollar rebate on the u2 box set on itunes. it makes sense that a band would have to have released a few albums before it would "qualify" to be ipodded. since only one band has been knighted ipod worthy by king jobs, there really is no existing criteria. maybe you're right. i just find it hard to believe that a 5 year old band with like 3 albums would qualify. the u2 one at least offered you a color option, but was kinda lame like a concert t shirt when they added the "autographs" to the back. i would just expect that a band would have released like 4 or 5 albums and be targeted at the 18-30 year old audience.

There'd be little point in a Coldplay ipod as they only have three albums and to be honest they just aren't that good. The U2 box set was hundreds of songs or something. The Coldplay one would be about sixty even with live versions factored in.

Coldplay are one of the biggest bands in music today. If you can't see that then you mustn't listen to much radio or read any music sites/mags. Releasing a special Coldplay iPod co-insiding with the iPod 5g would be a wise move.

If they're going to update the shuffle then i'm pretty sure it'll just be to make it available in new colours. A shuffle with a screen defeats the point of the shuffle. If you want a screen go buy a mini or a Creative or something.

2GB Shuffle LOL it would most likely cost as much as a 20GB iPod, if not at least in Mini price range. Coldplay iPod why? Just because their hot now doesn’t mean they’ll be hot later. Would that meant a few years ago we would have to have had a Spicegirls iPod or Britney Spears. U2 has a lot more history to them. I don’t even know how well the U2 version sold. Like people said at least with U2’s iPod you got something for the Extra 50 bucks. If Coldplay is so hot right now they also wouldn’t need the extra publicity right now. U2 maybe famous but it’s been sometime since they put something out and they’re not at the prime like years ago.

Currently the shipping times on Apple.com read like this:

512 shuffle -- same day
1 GB shuffle -- same day
4 GB mini -- same day
6 GB mini -- same day
20 GB iPod -- 2-4 days
30 GB photo -- 2-4 days
60 GB photo -- 3-5 days

So, while it's pure speculation, I say bring on the 5G iPods!!!!

I think U2's new album was great. Coldplay on the other hand...

The point I'd like everyone to remember is that this is all SPECULATION. Who the hell knows?

As far as the Coldplay thing goes, I'm rather indifferent. I don't care. I wouldn't buy a special edition iPod unless the bands were Kamelot, Vital Remains, Edge of Sanity, or some other bands like that, which won't happen, of course, because they're metal and metal isn't "hip" and "rad" and whatnot. I digress. Coldplay is just another mediocre pop band, but as far as the formula is concerned, if they did a commercial with the guys in it and whatnot, I can only assume that that means a Coldplay iPod is on the way.

Update the Shuffles? What's the damn point? A 2GB one would, as aforementioned, defeat the purpose of the Shuffle. If you have 2GB of music on it, you'd need a screen (heaven forbid you have to memorize it all) and of course a screen will jack up the price and invalidate the whole idea. They're brand new besides; they don't need an update.

The big iPods, though, do need an update. The Gen4 is a year+ old as far as I recall, and as far as I remember they get updated every year or so. Bigger, better, faster, prettier. God help us if they throw down with an iPod Video: we don't want video. That's not what an iPod is. An iPod is, of course, a music player and I'll be damned if I need it to do anything else at all. If I need a "media player", Archos makes one. I'll go buy it. I will not, of course, buy an MP3 player from Archos, because I know that Apple does it better.

Just my opinion, of course.

My best guess as to what they will launch on July 7 would be a 5g ipod with a color screen. That of course would be the end of the ipod photo which doesnt sell very well anyway.
