iTunes Giftcards \ Tax??

Hey all, i think im going to start purchasing music of iTunes, well after i use up all my Pepsi Caps....i love it.

I have a couple questions though, does iTunes charge tax when downloading songs, i live in Charlotte County Florida and our tax rate is 7%, now will this make my purchased songs really $1.06?

Another thing is i also work at target where we sell the $15 and $30 iTunes gift cards. Is tax charged onthese as well, because i get 10% of all merchandise and instead of getting 30songs per $30 gift card ill get 33songs per $30 gift card.

Thanks for the help

Tax is charged if you have an Apple store in your state of residence.

Tax would be applied to any purchase weather used through credit card or with a gift card/certificate. My brother gave me a certificate for $30 for my birthday and I bought an album the live BNL album that had 29 songs, after tax i ended up having a charge for the difference on my credit card.

You won't get more from the card. You'll get $30 period, so you won't get more songs per card since you are getting a discount it is just that your price per song will be a little lower.

Hmm. In Illinois I go to Target to get giftcards and I don't have to pay any tax.

Hmm. Interesting. I've been wrong before, perhaps I am wrong on the giftcard tax.

I do know that tax will be charged on an purchases with the gift card.

I admit I have never bought an iTunes gift card. Makes sense that there is no tax on that purchase as you are purchasing something as cash to give to another person and it would be purchases with said card that get charged the tax.

My apologies I stand corrected.

But I am right about tax in the music store if there is a brick and morter apple store in your state of residence

Well we have tons of "Apple Stores" in florida, even though the nearest one to me is like 120miles away .

Well...if they do charge tax, then it may be cheaper just to buy a whole album at a store, and just buy one song on iTunes if i don't want an album, or a hard to find album.

i get lost in the iPod\apple world....

The back of the card has a code on the back that you enter. And if the card is $15, it credits your iTunes account $15.

You still need an iTunes account, though, which means a credit card or paypal.

No credit card is needed to redeem a iTunes Giftcard or the iTunes\Pepsi bottle caps.

When you redeem for the first time all you need is your e-mail, name, and address. Make sure for the first time creating an account go to "prepaid cards" or "redeem" on the iTunes home page, do not go to "Sign In" on the top and create a new account, this will make you need a "credit card".

hope this helps with the giftcards\pepsi

i just wanted to know about the tax, now when you buy a giftcard for iTunes at the store, you get charged sales tax for the card (right?), which makes sence not to charge you tax again when downloading....but stright from a credit card may be a diffrent story...

There is no tax when you buy the card at the store. It's a flat 15.00 or 30.00.

A lot of things have changed in the 7 years or so since this thread was created. iTunes Store policies may differ from country to country. But it is possible, then and now, to create an iTunes Store account without a credit card.

The steps are obscure but read the Apple Support document Creating an iTunes Store, App Store, iBookstore, and Mac App Store account without a credit card. I had an iTunes account myself for a few years before I found a need to enter any credit card info.
