iPodRip will do it but it's not free. It will transfer only your data back to iTunes as long as the songs are already in iTunes or you can transfer songs, movies & videos. I used it since my iPod was on manual and I only needed to transfer the data from each song. It worked great and kept all tag information intact for the songs, movies & videos I needed to transfer to iTunes. It does playlists as well.

Honeybee.....I am new to the iLounge and have been looking for your guide on the 'parameter is incorrect' error message that some users have been getting.
I am trying to copy music files from my iPod to my computer hard disk using SharePod. I am trying to copy 190 songs and have been able to copy 100 but get the 'parameter is incorrect' on the last 90. Do you have any suggestions so I can copy the rest? Thanks |

That message may mean the song title + artist name is to long. Most apps have a limit on characters that can be used. Try shortening the name of the song and/or artists name on those songs. If your transferring artist/title/album then shorten the info or remove one. You can correct it in iTunes once it transfers.
Other option: You can try another app like YamiPod or iDump which both are free to remove the remaining songs or use one with a free trial option.

Most of the software has been updated to include the current iPods & iPhone. Just check the websites. The iPhone will play the same files the iPod plays. I still use the same converted files I had before the iPhone came out.
When asking questions post your OS platform - windows or mac. You can use Handbrake (mac & windows).

Honeybee-
I had roughly 90% of my music stored on an external hard drive and 10% of my music stored on my computer. Recently I lost my hard drive and am trying to clarify the easiest way for me to restore all my music to a new hard drive. What is confusing me is the following: 1) Of all the freeware and pay software out there, what is going to be the best solution to move the files to the new hard drive? 2) How do I keep all my ratings, genre's, playlists in tact? Would all of these ratings be stored on my computer (and therefore safe?), are they on my Ipod and can be transfered to the new hard drive? Or are they lost for good when my old hard drive crashed? 3) I did create backup data CD's for about 80% of my music...but I am trying to avoid using these as I am concerned I would lose not only some of the songs I didn't back up...but also lose all the ratings/playlists I created. Thru separate posts I felt that I heard some various ways to go about this...However, I have roughly 4K songs I need to recover and don't won't to risk messing things up by taking advice from multiple sources. If you can walk me thru what you recommend it woudl be much appreciated! Thanks, Paul |
