ITunes bigger than iPod - Help

Hi Guys

I have a 40 gig IPOD (or should I say 37!), my Itunes Library is now upto 40.5 gig - is there an easy way of choosing what songs I want to have on the Ipod? When I changed to manual sync I lost everything and had to sync everything again which took hours!!

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Darren

I rundown of managing your iPod can be found under the articles section in iTunes 201.

For a library that is bigger than your iPod you are left with two options in my opinion, there may be others but I think these are the best too.

Manual manage. This gives you absolute touch and go control over what is on and off your iPod. You use drag and drop to bring albums to the iPod and can delete things directly from the iPod while connect. You can make playlists and smartplaylists directly on the iPod, or drag ones over from iTunes. This gives you the most direct control but in my opinion sometimes more work and more hunting for files.

Update select playlists. This would be the option I would choose if I had more tunes than iPod space. I would make a smartplaylist of my must have artists and albums. I would then make regular playlists of my must have songs as well. I would add the GB of these together (and any others I might make), then make a final smartplaylist that has conditions that exclude any songs that are in the other playlists (Playlist is not "") I would then make any other conidtions I want, like last played, recently added or any of that jazz and then make sure you select autoupdate, and limit by "blank" GB where blank is the number of GB left after your other playlists are added. Select all these playlists in the preferences for "update select playlists only" I think this is the best way to have all your must have songs and the freshest/newest/less listened too songs on the iPod as well.

That's my take.

Enjoy,
Stu
