Itunes Authorization problem please help

I am having a bit of a problem with i tunes. my friend burned me a data cd of some songs, some of them were purchaced using itunes. when i go to play the songs that were purchaced it is telling me that i need to be authorized to play them. so my friend gave me his password. but all it does is wait a while and then it gives me the error message saying "We could not complete your music store request. an unknown error occrued (404). There was an error in the music store. please try again later." i tried taking off my fire wall. that did not work. and no one at apple could help me.
