losing tunes from pod.

Please choose the appropriate forum for this topic. Thank you. Please choose the appropriate forum for this topic. Thank you. Here's the problem. My son and I have an iPod each and a P.C. each with iTunes. He has downloaded tunes from his P.C. onto his iPod without problem. He visits me and downloads tunes from my iTunes onto his IPod by dragging them across to his iPod icon.No problem.

He then returns home and downloads more music from his P.C.(iTunes) onto his iPod and loses the music that he downloaded earlier from my P.C.

I am sure that ther is a simple solution to this but we are both clueless.

Please help and explain very clearly and very slowly because we are very stupid.

Welcome to the lounge.
It sounds like the iPod auto sync'd with his library. When the iPod does that it will erase any songs on the iPod that are not in the library.

He needs to set the iPod to "manually manage songs and playlists"? See (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=61131).
If set for disk use, the iPod will still auto sync with the library but can be used as a hard drive. Setting it to "manually manage songs" will stop the iPod from auto sync'ing to iTunes.

Thank you for your help all the way from Queens.

Now another problem. I am trying to EMail the same son a track from my iTunes but it keeps being rejected by his Windows Media Player as incompatible. We both have Windows,ITunes and MSN Hotmail. The format is AAC. Would it help if I converted it to MP3 and how do I do that.
Told you we were very stupid.
