Exclamation iTunes does not recognize CD - Cannot import

Hello

I just recently got my ipod mini and everything was operating great. I even managed to import 2 cds onto itunes and synch it into my ipod....until it stopped working. I am using Win XP with the cdrom that came w/ my IBM comp.

For some reason, iTunes does not automatically recognize my cds anymore and I can't make it manually read it either. My computer can read it fine, both my winamp and win media player can play it. I even tried doing the 'win media player dance' where you open it, and then open iTunes and it should work (one of my friends suggested it) but it doesn't.

I don't want to convert my cds to wma format because it is just too tedious! This is very frustrating and annoying because it DID WORK for 2 cds and suddenly it doesn't work anymore!!!!!

I hope someone can shed light on this situation, it will be much appreciated. Thanks

I have this problem now as well.

None of the previous threads and standard recommended fixes are working.

I can play the cds fine on other PCs.

Is my drive screwed up? Device manager says it is OK.

Interesting: my problem turns out to be a pathological CD I was trying to rip - third eye blind. Whenever I insert this CD, Itunes does not recognise it or any other CD I subsequently insert. I have to power down my laptop and reboot to be able to rip again. The CD plays fine on my other PC, but something about this Dell laptop CD/DVD drive doesn't like it. I have the latest driver, and can find nothing else wrong, so I guess I will skip ripping this one. I don't like 3EB that much so no big loss.

iTunes is famous for not supporting older and some newer Samsung CD/DVD drives. Of course most Dell PC's use Samsung drives. This problem has been posted numberous times on Apple's discussion board but so far no resolutions have been forthcoming. Luckily I have a 2nd drive (an Acer CDRW) installed on my PC and iTunes will recognize CD put in that drive.

I have the same problem. Does anyone know how to fix it? it recognizes some CD's but not all. Is it a software error? or is it my cd drive? Please help?

My drive is from MSI.

Any solutions yet?

attention to everyone!!!!

your problem is not new, this what happens to 5% of pc users worldwide using itunes. i have the same problem. its the cd rom which is not doing its job. iv tried everything including sofware upgrade of windows xp but unfortunately nothing happens.

this is the answer......

ur LG cd rom (or samsung) does not recognize audio cd!!! it only recognize mp3 cd and data cd formatted songs.

how did i find this answer.... well i just bought a mac computer and tried to burn songs on a cd using mp3 and data cd format but not audio cd format. i tried to play it on my windows xp and viola!!!! the cd was recognized... i dont know how to explain this.

there is one solution, upgrade your firmware of LG or samsung CD rom. but this is too risky it might destroy your cd rom permanently.

try buying a branded cd rom like sony etc....

sorry guys there is stil no solution from apple......
