how to change play order

so as of about a month ago, whenever i ripped a cd it would go all nice into itunes arranged by song number. now, however, the playlist is alphabetical, and i can't change it around unless i form a playlist?! is there anyway to change this? it's not an impossible thing, just a stupid inconvenience. why would they think we would want to listen to albums in alphabetical order anyway?

Hi and welcome

you are talking about two different things

When you rip a cd that is recognized by CDDB, the tags are added automatically including most times the track number and the files are added to your existing iTunes library. They only go into a playlist when you say so / create one. They would only be in alphabetical order if you clicked on song name in the iTunes title bar. In your entire iTunes library you can determine the order they play in by clicking on album, artist, or file format etc.

I'm not sure what you have done here but if you did create a playlist for an album then it is easy to change / freeze the play order by arranging the order by track number and right clicking on the playlist name.

well let me try to clarify myself...
i don't want to have to make a playlist for every album i want to listen to in the correct order.
what i want is that when i open itunes, click on an artist and then an album, i want that album to be in the correct play order, not alphabetical, which is how they all are now...
but it doesn't seem there's any way to change the order in the library. i even tried going to info and then putting in the song (number- out of-), so it has the info, but everything's still aphabetized...
