You can't re-download the songs. The files you have on your old computer are all you have. If you can't get those, you're out of luck. [Unless they're all on your iPod- you can pull the songs down using free software from the Downloads at the top of the page]
Maintaining a back-up of all of your music is highly recommended. |

The answer to your question is that you can't because ipods SUCK!!! i spent 80$ on itunes to buy songs for my new ipod over the holidays and of course i wasnt at my house. ALL of the money is now down the tube! Apple thinks that if they isolate the songs to one comp they can make more money because ppl would have to download it again. WELL, APPLE HAVE YOU EVER HEARD OF TORRENTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! IPODS SUCK!!!!

Moving your iTunes Store purchases to another computer If you have an iPod or iPhone with iTunes Store purchases on it, you can use it to move your purchases to other authorized computers. You might want to do this if you regularly use more than one computer (at home and at work or school, for example) to buy items from the iTunes Store, and you want all your purchases in both iTunes libraries. To move store purchases from your iPod or iPhone: Make sure the iPod or iPhone has the purchased items you want to transfer. Make sure the destination computer (the one you want to transfer items to) is authorized to play iTunes Store purchases (choose Store > Authorize Computer and then click Authorize). Do one of the following: If the iPod or iPhone is synced with another computer, or is an iPod shuffle: Click Transfer Purchases in the dialog that appears. If the iPod or iPhone is set up to manually manage items: Wait for the device to appear in the iTunes window (below Devices), and then choose File#> Transfer Purchases From iPod (or iPhone). Unless the song is an iTunes Plus version, you can play an iTunes Store purchase on up to five authorized computers. |
Your money is not down the tube. Apple doesn't isolate songs to one computer. What you have to do is authorize your home computer. Here follow these simple instructions from Apple:
Moving your iTunes Store purchases to another computer If you have an iPod or iPhone with iTunes Store purchases on it, you can use it to move your purchases to other authorized computers. You might want to do this if you regularly use more than one computer (at home and at work or school, for example) to buy items from the iTunes Store, and you want all your purchases in both iTunes libraries. To move store purchases from your iPod or iPhone: Make sure the iPod or iPhone has the purchased items you want to transfer. Unless the song is an iTunes Plus version, you can play an iTunes Store purchase on up to five authorized computers.
Regarding this last part, if you log in under two different user names, will it still authorize it, or must you log in to itunes using the same username and password. Reason I am asking is, my buddy and I bought a lot of music together over the years and would just update the ipods on the same computers. Now our kids are coming of age and we both have iphones, plus both have wives with ipods and kids with ipods and we need to have it seperate, but both want the whole library we purchased together. Is this possible? Thanks for any help. I really didnt know how to even search for this topic. Sorry if it has been answered. |
