Angry Velvet Revolver ruined iTunes!

Hi all. I apologize if this topic has already been discussed. I searched through but could not find anything.

I purchased the Velvet Revolver CD last week, and was of course frustrated I could not copy the CD into iTunes... but that's an entirely different complaint...

Today, I opened iTunes for the first time in a while, and every song in my library was skipping the same way the Velvet Revolver CD sounded when I tried to play it! I deleted iTunes and upgraded to the latest version, and still had the exact same problem with the songs... The songs play fine when I open them through RealPlayer, I only have the problem with iTunes!

I was frustrated enough that I couldn't copy the VR disc in the first place (for obvious reasons), but this is ridiculous. I'm afraid to update my iPod in fear that it'll transfer all the songs to the way iTunes is playing them. If anyone has any advice or anything at all to help me out, you'd become my hero.

This happened to me as well, but with another CD. Just wait a few days, and don't keep iTunes open for long periods on end. Also don't keep so many windows open when iTunes is open.

Thanks for the reply.

I have tried waiting a few days, and the songs are still skipping. I updated my iPod, which was my only real concern, and the songs transfered fine. Although I do like using iTunes to listen to music on my computer, I suppose I could use RealPlayer or another program just as easily.

It's amazing to me that some people claim to have gotten around this copy protection with no problem. I have tried all the methods I have found, and have had no luck... not to mention the disc ruining the playback of songs through iTunes as well. If it bothers me enough, I guess I could always format. That idea doesn't sound too attractive right now though!

Thanks again.

It sounds like the MediaMax DRM crap is already installed on you system.

If it is a windows box, follow these additional steps to disable MediaMax:

1. Select the SbcpHid driver from the Device Manager list and click "Properties" from the Action Menu.
2. Click the Driver tab and click the Stop button to disable the driver.
3. Set the Startup Type to "Disabled" using the dropdown list.
4. Reboot your system

You can avoid this in the future by turning off autolaunch in windows or holding down the shift key when you insert a CD.

Been there and done that. After that didn't work, I uninstalled the driver and went into the Windows/System32 folder and deleted it from my computer. Still no luck...

Thanks for the reply.

I finally figured out the problem...

I had TotalRecorder installed, which is a program you can use to capture the audio of your computer and turn it into a file. Once I uninstalled TotalRecorder and it's drivers, iTunes started playing the files fine again. I was also able to copy the Velvet Revolver to my computer by hitting the shift key at start up, as you mentioned. I had tried this before when TotalRecorder was installed, but it didn't work.

I'm glad to finally have this issue resolved. Thanks for the tips and advice.

I had the same problem with Total Recorder. It's a wonderful program worth every penny of the $12.00 cost, but it just has a lousy playback codec.

You don't have tyo uninstall Total Recorder. I had the same problem and fixed it easily in Windows XP (probably the same for other Windows).

Go to Start->Control Panel->Sound and Audio Devices

Click on the audio tab and you should be able to pick what windows uses as the default device for audio playback. I switch to the Total Recorder for playback when recording, and then switch back for everything else. Kind of a pain in the butt if you record alot, but better than not being able to use Total Recorder at all.
