Angry Velvet Revolver CD

The new Velvet Revolver CD has security on it and it is not compatiable with iTunes. They use Windows Media (DRM), there is an e-mail address to contact BMG for a workaround to get the music onto the iPod. I will let you know what I find out once I hear back from them. BMG really dropped the ball on this one. I have no problems with securing CD's as long as you can use them on any format you choose.

With the iPod being the most popular DAP by far, they should really have considered not using WMA...

Or at least offer electronic versions of both types WMA and ACC.

Velvet Revolver is available on the iTunes Music Store. Doesn't help people that have already bought the CD, though.

That's pretty sh*tty of them to do that. Looks like I'll hold off buying my copy until I hear of a decent resolution. Thanks for keeping us posted.

I guess I got ahead of myself. I having problems at work using WMP on windows 2000 with no luck (music skipping, inaudible), but once I got home a actually fired up iTunes and stuck the disc in and guess what no problems importing tracks sound good on iTunes and iPod. Sorry for the misinformation, after reading that the iPod wasn't supported on the disc I thought it would be best to let everyone know before they went out and bought the CD.

Again no problems with the CD. Sorry for the confusion

hey:

having the same problem with the cd.

it will 'play' using the "enclosed" player, but itunes will not play the cd, nor will it import the songs (skipping etc,) nor will it convert the wma to aac.

I spent time 'googling' for a solution, but could not find one.

anybody figure anything out?

I wasn't sure how much of a description to give, I don't want to get booted from the board.

If you google for "Analysis" and "Mediamax" the first link should help you. Read the article throughly.

I buy a lot of CDs and I haven't experienced one CD in the U.S. with copy protection. So I'm skeptical that this CD has copy protection. I was considering purchasing this CD and might so I will heed your warning but it's hard for me to believe a lable would relaese a copy protected CD in the U.S. It may work overseas but I know if they start that crap over here they just lost me as a record buyer.

Correction: This CD IS copy protected. DO NOT BUY THIS CD! Show BMG (and labels that want to try this in the future) that you will not put up with copy protected CDs, hit them where it hurts them the most...the wallet!

See these sites for info:

I would read this article, it explains the technology use by BMG to protect their CD's and how one might be able to get around it.

Analysis of the MediaMax CD3 Copy-Prevention System

Thanks for the link CheshireGeek. I'm going to read it now.

Edit: Excellent article. I recommend that everybody read it who wants to know about this copy protection and how to get around it.
