itunes freezes on startup after updating

hi all,

i just updated itunes to 12.6.0 after ignoring it for a fair while. it now locks up as soon as it opens. i can't click anything or even minimise it and have to end the process. after some googling here's what i've tried so far -

system restore to before the update - no difference

using msconfig to stop any apple related stuff from starting on startup - nope

killing APSDaemon and reopening itunes - no luck

removing my itunes library file from the itunes folder - opens without my library on show but still freezes

updating / repairing quicktime - nothing

uninstalling it and installing the original version - lost my entire itunes library and was forced to install 12.6 again just to get it back and avoid a larger problem

so here i am. i feel this may be punishment by apple for choosing to ignore its constant update messages for so long. if anyone has any other suggestions it would be much appreciated!

i'm on windows 7 btw

It is probably some supporting software causing the conflict.

Uninstall iTunes, Bojour, Apple Mobile Device Service, iPod Helper, and anything else Apple related.
Then reboot, then install iTunes again.

I am running 12.6 on Windows 7 as well.

Have you backed up your iTunes Library this week? If not, you are risking losing your music and playlists....
