Multiple Artists on one CD show up as seperate artists.

So I have a album released by Trentemoller. On that album there are 10 or so artist who cover Trentemollers songs. I have many albums like this so I have hundreds of artists show up in the column browser with just one song. What I would like is to be able to go to Trentemoller and see all the artists there and there only. I have a compilations album which has all the drum and bass genre tracks and woodstock compilation tracks. I have done this so all these artists don't show up in the artist tracks. So doing this option to all my problem tracks wont work for me because I don't want to have to go to my compilations album just to listen to one track when I'm in the mood to listen to all trentmoller songs. The various artists won't work for me because of the same reason or so I think. I have tried the group compilations view as well and that didn't help. So another example is I would want all my woodstock artists to be under "Woodstock" and once I click on that I would want to still see who did each song so naming all the artists woodstock wouldn't help. Thanks for any help. Oh and I would like my ipod classic to show up the same as itunes.

There are a few options. You can leave the Artist field as is, and then fill in "Trentemoller" as the Album Artist for all the tracks. I think they would still show up under their individual artists this way though, too. As in, the same tracks would be listed in both places.

Or, you can just make the Artist field say "Trentemoller," and then put the individual artists in the track name (Ex: Artist: "Trentemoller" - Song: "{Song name} - Cover by {artist}" or something.)

I think what you want is possible, if I understand correctly. You want to accomplish two things:

1- Hide Artist names in the browser who only have a track from a Compilation album.

2- Be able to select "Trentemoller" from the Artist browser and have all artists from the Trentemoller Compilation appear.

If that is correct, then I'd suggest the following:

1- Select all songs on the Compilation album and enter "Trentemoller" in the Album Artist field. Also, make sure that the "Part of a Compilation" flag is set on the Options tab.

2- Click on the Album header repeatedly until it reads "Album by Artist".

3- From the menu bar, select "View/ Column Browser" and select the two options "Group Compilations" and "Use Album Artists".

Now when you select Trentemoller as the Artist in the browser, you'll see all tracks associated with that name.

Note that for other Compilations where there is no common artist or association, you can use "Various Artists" as the Album Artist in step 1.

Fixed

I believe I tried both of your suggestions before with no luck. Reading your replies made me think of a combination I haven't tried yet. So what I did was set the album artist as the name I want it to be under so in my case "trentemoller". I set "part of compilation to no" although I left the compilation grouping view on. I then set album artist view to on as well. And that fixed it. I have a couple hundred less artists in the browser now and it automatically created a Woodstock album. I've been trying to figure this out for ages. Thanks soooo much guys!
