I'm on a PC - how do you search for something on a connected iPod in iTunes 11 like you used to be able to in iTunes 10?
I would like to use the search bar in the upper right like I've always done. The only shortcut thus far that I've found was actually clicking in the library on some artists and start typing the artists name. This would make iTunes go to that artist's first song in your collection. If this function has been removed, Apple has moved backwards in basics. If you have iTunes 11, is there a way to revert back to iTunes 10? I tried uninstalling and reinstalling v10 since I still have the install file and it did not allow it, weird... |

Uncheck the "Search Entire Library" from the little dropdown on the magnifying glass. Then search works the way it used to and is magnitudes faster.
The new search may look fancy, but it's slow and nigh on useless.

I did this, but it doesn't find anything on my iPod (even though I know it's there). I believe this "trick" only works when you're searching something that's on your local hard drive, not an iPod that was connected via a USB cable. Any suggestions?

Heh, you're right. I just tested it and you cannot search your iPod/iPhone when mounted even when on the "On this iPod/iPhone" tab.
Maybe it works in manual mode? (Not worth managing manually of course for such a thing, but just musing out loud). Given that they have the whole "on this iPod" tab, I'm guessing the fact you can't search it is probably a bug.

You may need to click on the iPod first before typing the search term.
Yes you can roll back to iTunes 10: http://forums.ilounge.com/itunes-mac...ml#post1429029

![]() First, there is no iPod to click on by default, and when you do select the iPod screens from the "iPod" button, the only one that shows you the iPod contents is one called "On this iPod", and you *cannot* search from that screen. You can type in any term you want, but nothing happens. And, even if you re-enable the side bar, same deal. You can enter all the search terms you want but *nothing* happens when actually viewing the device contents. Like I mused, maybe being in manual mode makes a difference, but if you're syncing, the behavior is odd.

I uninstalled iTunes 11, deleted the iTunes directory (or everything that I could), replaced the the .ITL library file with something prior to the version that I have installed, and made sure to change the shortcuts so I'd be opening an iTunes 10 executable and not an iTunes 11 executable (which by default is still there in the directory). Now when I try to open iTunes, I get an error code and tells me if I want to import or burn a CD, I would have to reinstall because of a bad install. It still allows me to go in the program, but at least I can have my beloved search function work properly... I guess I'll have to wait until iTunes 11 released a later update to resolve some of these issues. |

Apple has help for installation errors: Trouble installing iTunes or QuickTime for Windows
They even have a page for this particular problem: iTunes for Windows: "Registry settings" warning when opening iTunes
