I recently lost my ipod, and as it was the second ipod in my family how do I access its contents in the itunes library (which only shows the contents of the first ipod)?

You don't.
If your iTunes Library does not contain the music that was on your second iPod, then you don't have access to the music. This is why your iTunes Library should have a copy of ALL of your music. Then you can access it when you get your third iPod. The iTunes Library should also be backed up to prevent the loss of your hard drive causing you to lose your library.
