Hi,
When I synchronise my iPod with iTunes the ratings I have made on my iPod nano are not consistantly transferring to iTunes. Sometimes (rarely) they will transfer, but the usually wont. Once I have synchronised and ejected my iPod, the ratings have gone from my iPod. I have tried retoring my iPod but Im having the same problem. Any ideas what could be causing this? Has anyone had this problem? Thanks, Mecc |

First off you need to be using auto-sync for the ratings to transfer. Sounds like you might be doing this.
Second, the last one to mess with the file wins. So if you set the rating on your iPod, and then update the artwork (or any other field) in iTunes, then sync, the rating will be lost. Try only updating the rating on the iPod without messing with the songs in iTunes, then sync. The ratings should transfer.

Thanks for replying. I am definately auto-syncing.
I thought it might be that I changed something in iTunes after I had rated the songs because I was organising my library with third party apps and scripts. But I took your suggestion and tried syncing my ipod, rating a few songs on my ipod and then syncing again. The ratings were not transferred to itunes and when I disconnected my ipod the ratings were gone. ![]() Is there anything else I could try? |

I used to see this behavior on my iPod Classic if I either (a) played a ton of Texas Hold 'em games, and/or (b) played > 250 songs since my last auto-sync. I chalked this up to memory issues on the iPod, as if memory allocated for changes since the last sync got overwritten by games or a lot of other data.
For the songs whose ratings don't update, does their Last Played update your iTunes library if you play them all the way through on your Nano? Have you tried resetting or restoring the Nano? Perhaps something's corrupted with the firmware that might be fixed via reset or restore. |

I think I have found the problem. It seems to be related to the "enable disk usage" option on the ipod. I had this enabled, but since disabling this option all ratings have transferred
. I ran a diagnostics test (Help - Run Diagnostics...) on Device Sync Tests and it says no iPod is connected, but I can synchronize and see the iPod fine.![]() It's really weird because when the "enable disk usage" option was enabled play counts and "on the go" playlists were transferred to iTunes, but ratings were only transferred occasionally, but it was sporadic and when they did not transfer they were wiped off the iPod. Thanks for the help anyway. |
