How do I cancel a download...I hit an album download by mistake which I don't want...all songs are paused.....

It's too late, you paid for the entire album so you might as well download it. Apple does NOT issue refunds for accidental purchases. They will refund your money ONLY if there is an actual problem with the downloaded material and are unable to fix it in a timely fashion.
So, unless you only have 50MB of free space on your computer's hard drive (which is highly unlikely since no OS can properly function under that condition), just download all the songs since you have already paid for them.
