Up until recently, I was able to move iTunes music files on my computer easily to my wife's laptop and download them on her machine through Home Sharing in order that she could sync them to her iPod, iPhone, iPad, etc. I can no longer do that.
I should explain that I recently had a problem with my own laptop that required a technician to "ghost" my hard drive and totally reset my laptop (as though it was brand new) and transfer my "ghost hard drive" back to my restored laptop. I'm using Windows 7. Since that time, however, even when both my wife's and my laptop have Home Sharing enabled properly, I cannot actually move one of my music files to her laptop to incorporate it into her iTunes library. Her laptop will play a music file that's in my library through streaming, ironically, but my file won't download to her iTunes library any longer. Any ideas of things I can try? Thanks. |

Sounds like you are using Shared Library not Home Sharing.
There are 2 features that are very similar but are distinctly different. Shared Library allows all your ripped stuff to be played by anyone on your network. If they try and play purchased stuff it prompts you for the password, unless the target machine is authorized on the account. The connection for Shared Libraries does not require a password. No copying is allowed. Home Share allows all of your stuff to be played or copied, because all participants have the account password associated with it. The password to the iTunes account is required to make the connection. Turn off Shared Library, and turn on Home Sharing.
