Red face ITUNES will not sync Playlists on IPOD Touch

I have a question: I have ITUNES 10 on my new laptop; I downloaded a few cds the other day into my current library of music and added to current playlists. A week ago, I used "Media Widget" to download my music from my Ipod Touch (2nd gen) to my new laptop and it seemed to work fine. Now, when I went to sync my Ipod with the updated playlists with the few cds I downloaded, Itunes DID NOT sync all my playlists but only synced the new cds I had just downloaded although the music is all there on ITUNES and in my playlists. I went from 1593 songs on my IPOD to 52 songs! Itunes is apparently accepting the music in its library as I am not getting the exclamation point next to music as I had done in the past when I downloaded my library on another laptop when it didn't recognize the library. This time its not indicating anything about not recognizing the library. And there is a an Itunes folder with all the music on my harddrive on the laptop when I had downloaded with the widget so everything seems like it should work. I did the manual selection of music playlists, checked the playlists I wanted to sync on my Ipod and it still is not doing it. I want my 1593 songs back on my Ipod!

I have the same issue - using iTunes on PC, have a new iPod Touch 8. I use this for Zumba classes, thus have to have playlists that are reliably synced. I have had to actually restore twice to get playlists to sync - random songs will be left off after syncing. Old iPod always worked successfully when syncing playlists. Any quick solution to this issue?

The iPod touch is currently in it's 4th generation, has not been an 8 yet. Oops, that was probably 8 MB you meant.

Anyway syncing to an iPod Touch is no different than syncing an iPhone. Syncing is generally reliable.

There is an open issue with special characters: Some special characters will not display in playlist title, song name, or album name when syncing to some iPod models

If you continue seeing sync problems, try a different cable, different USB port, ensure there is not a HUB between the computer and the iPod, and you may want to check out the drive letter conflict issue:
Windows confuses iPod with network drive or hard drive and may keep iPod from mounting or songs may seem to disappear

Another issue could be: iTunes 10: Microsoft Outlook Hotmail Connector may conflict with syncing iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

If you are on IOS5 you could try a wifi sync to see if the cable is the issue. Turn on wifi sync on iTunes and the iPod Touch, plug the iPod Touch into an outlet, with the screen unlocked to sync.

It would also be useful to restart the iPod touch as per these instructions and try to sync again:

Apple - Support - iPod touch - iPod touch Troubleshooting Assistant

why don't you just make sure to sync your Entire music library instead. This should transfer over not only selected playlists, but all of them, along with your music.
