Did you recently update iTunes to a new version? If yes, are you clicking on the icon for the old version? If yes, try clicking on the icon for the new version.

If no, uninstall iTunes completely: Removing and Reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows XP
Re-install itunes

If you don't have a regular, good backup routine for your music and media you will eventually lose it all.
Hint: Using your iPod as your backup strategy is not a good plan.

The same thing happen to me a while ago.
From what i remember i had to start task manager, then go to processors, i then had to end process to itunes.exe.
I think that's how i got itunes to open again, i hope it helps.
Good luck.

Have you tried going to the location your songs are stored and then clicking play song, itunes should open up and start playing.
If that doesn't work, i'm out of ideas.
