I am having a party soon and will be using my music on itunes, I guess I'm not going to be the only one deciding what music to play, is there a way to stop music being deleted accidently, for instance can i put a password etc on it as last time i lost some music.

Your best bet for everyday as well as the party is to have a complete backup of your library.
You could also make the iTunes directory and all sub directories and files to READ ONLY in Windows Explorer. You may not capture playcounts from the moment you do this until you undo it, but I don't think that should matter.
