What Problems Have You Had With iTunes 8.2

At the risk of getting flamed again, has anyone had problems with the latest update to iTunes? If you have logged onto iTunes recently you should have been prompted to download the 8.2 update. I haven't seen anything so far other than speculation that this update will lock out the Palm Pre, which is not too surprising and I am sure that the folks at Palm are already hard at work updating their OS to make sure that it will still sync with iTunes as promised recently.

But for the rest of the world, has anyone had major or even minor problems with version 8.2?

I did a quick check on the apple forums and came up with two problems so far:

This one may not be about iTunes but it is an odd coincidence that the same thing happened to two people

There are no major updates to 8.2 except for "future" iPhone 3.0 support. So there is absolutely no reason to upgrade unless A) you are currently having problems or B) are an iPhone App developer or C) are in the future and have an iPhone with OS 3 on it already.

Sure there is a good chance that 8.2 breaks the proported pre syncing, but no real new features are there, though there may be other bug fixes.

Found Another Problem

Again, This may only be isolated to this one individual but a few people seem to be having problems. Not enough to warrant not downloading and updating but there could be problems.

But that is the same with any software update. I once ran a Real Player update which totaled my Windows installation. Had to wipe and reinstall everything. I learned my lesson about setting restore points for sure.

I installed the update in hopes it fixes the audio drop outs I have been getting with my Airport Express. I have also been experiencing a strange issue I hope it fixes where iTunes will crash if I try to refresh podcasts after playing them through AirTunes. The crash always happens when iTunes tries to delete an episode I played using AirTunes.

So far it's been working with no issues yet, but I'm way from home right now and can't test it with my normal network with Apple TVs. Testing with the Express right now but probably not long enough to get a drop out.

I gave it a shot

I installed it on my laptop to see how it goes. So far the issues I have seen have unfortunately been on Macs so hopefully all will go well running on a Windows XP laptop. I will report back any issues I run across. I also have to get my iPod up and running again. I fried the battery with a cheap wall charger and am waiting for the replacement to arrive.

Not having any problems so far with 8.2, on Mac OS 10.5, but I noticed the first time a launched iTunes, it displayed a status bar that said "Updating Library". Took a few minutes on my library (15000+ items) to finish.

So far so good. I had the same library updating message but it didn't take too long. I guess I have a small collection, about 1,400 songs. I am in the process of ripping all the CDs in my changer and my old albums and getting rid of them so I guess the size of my library will grow. But for now all is going well. Will report more once I get my iPod running again. Battery should be here tomorrow.

Did any songs transfer when you synced your iPod for the first time after updating to 8.2?

I had the library updating message but it didn't take very long. Other than that minor annoyance everything is running fine.

Very Sad

I got the battery for my iPod and installed it. Screen lit up just fine with tiny amount of charge showing on the battery level indicator. Dropped it into the cradle to charge it up and to my deep dismay it looks like the stupid wall charger I bought may have fried my mainboard. I can't even get the screen to light up at all. Can't reset either. Plugged it into my wifes iPhone wall charger to see if I can get it going but so far no luck.

And its really dead

I guess I have a nice new battery in a very dead iPod Photo. I will put it up on eBay to see if anyone wants it for parts.

podcasts not downloading

Since installing 8.2, no podcasts are downloaded with the mysterious "unknown error -39" message appearing.

Anyone else know what this is? Personally I no longer care - I've had enough and I'm off to Media Monkey

No problems here with podcasts, and it fixed the other issues I was having with AirTunes and the Airport Express.
