Question Beats per Minute -- automatic tagging?

How cool would it be to run some sort of app that would analyze your songs and tag each one with the approrpiate Beats per Minute? Imagine the smart playlists you could make with that information...

Is this even possible? If not, is there any way to tag your songs' BPM besides playing them one by one and timing the beats with a metronome?

Thanks,
Skep

Media Center 9 will analyze your files and add BPM, it takes some time and it keeps screwing with my ID3 Tags when I do it. It removes the total tracks in the album tag.

I am in Windows Media Player 9 and I can't see how to get it to analyze songs for BPM. Can you please explain how you did it?

Thanks,
Skep

Thats because Windows Media Player 9 and Media Center 9 are two different programs. Check the Downloads section under Windows.

Well, I've analyzed about 2000 of my files with Media Center, and the results are inconsistent to the point of being useless. It doesn't do a good job of recognizing the actual pace of a song.

It's certainly not accurate enough to count BPM, and often says slow songs have higher BPM than fast songs.

Off to the music store to buy a metronome...
