Ok, so I keep all my music files on an external hard drive. My computer hard drive died, and I lost my library .itl file. So when I got my new laptop, I downloaded itunes, plugged in my external hard drive. Now, how do I get my music to show up in iTunes? Sorry for the newbie question...
I know I lost my playlists, play counts etc. Just sucks... |

If your using a Mac (kudos if you are!) then open the external HD icon that you see and click on the iTunes music file. Then just drag and drop that file into the music folder in the Finder.
In Windows I don't know the exact way but I think that you could just find the empty iTunes folder and drag your music over to it.
