Question problems accessing my iPod music through iTunes after an iPod software upgrade

bah. seems everything has gone swimmingly until recently when i obeyed iTunes and went for the iPod software upgrade for which it prompted me when i had my ipod connected. my base computer is at home... so the next day when at work i connected via usb as usual and voila, all of the music on my ipod was greyed out and i couldn't play it. i brought it home, and again, same thing even now on my home/base computer. what gives? i haven't done anything outlandish and have had it for about a year and a half and have only had to reset it once when a game hung it up... but now that i did the software upgrade it has done this, and also the next day it gave me that odd/scary white screen with instruction to restore it; so i've done that now, too, since when i brought it back home the second day after work of its odd behaviour and itunes condirmed what the white screen said: restore. so i did. and now things are just going downhill. ALSO... small thing but up at the top in itunes when playing my main (not ipod) library (since i can't access it!..), there is just the basic equalizer in the 'window' at the top of the screen instead of the bar that you can slide to skip play placement in the chosen song.

help would be appreciated! thanks folks..

and now i've tried clicking 'manually manage music' so now the ipod's library isn't greyed anymore, but my puchased music is not ALL (though some is?..) not on my ipod. i have transfered purchases and done two syncs.. to no avail. the music is still all in 'purchased' but the most recent couple of albums aren't on the ipod. help? has something happened?.... thanks guys.

Have you tried resetting your iPod? Hold the Menu and Center button for 10 seconds should do it. This sounds like the upgrade may not have completed.

No.. well, I did have to do that a while back because a game crashed it, but not since all tihs has been happening. Actually since I made these two posts, I was listening to the iPod yesterday cleaning house, and it was working fine, including when I used my tunestick fm transmitter; today when I plugged it in for a sync, iTunes said it detected an iPod in recovery mode... and required a restore.. so that's the second time in just a few days it's required a restore! Now this is freaking me out a lil'. I will try the reset after this sync is over... it is taking for-ever....

Thanks for the advice
