Folks,
I'd been saving my iTunes library on an external drive, which crashed recently. Not to worry; I had a backup of everything on another drive. The iTunes library from the backup loads just fine, but all the tracks are missing. Now, the files are still in the iTunes folder, all neatly organized as they should be. But iTunes can't find them. I know I can manually add the tracks one by one, but with around 20,000, that's going to take, well, a while. There must be an easier way! I can't imagine that I'm the first to have this problem, but I can't find a mention in the forums. I would be sincerely grateful for help. Thanks! John jadcox@mindspring.com |

iTunes can only locate your files if it knows the exact paths to those files. So, the folder structure of your backup must be exactly the same as it was on your daily-use drive. Plus, the backup's drive letter must be the same as your daily-use drive (Windows? Fire up "Computer Management" in Control Panel, then use Drive Management to assign a drive letter.) (Mac? Give the backup drive the same name as the daily-use drive.)
