Is there any way to have iTunes pick the tunes per the rules in a smart playlist, but put them in the playlist in a random order?
Why would I want this when the iPod has a "shuffle" feature? Well, it would be nice to be able to play an album in track order, then play a random playlist, without having to change the settings on the iPod. iTunes's smart playlist feature has a random check box, but it still puts the songs in the playlist in order. |

With the the playlist selected in iTunes, make sure you are sorting by left most column (track colum number)
Now look in the lower left of the iTunes window. See the suffle buttong? Click it on and it will shuffle tracks into a "random" order. Notice I put quotes around random, some people don't think it is very random. Next time you sync it should mirror on the iPod. I hate the fact that the shuffle option is buried into the iPods settings. I wish I could assign shuffle to certain playlists like you can in iTunes. *edit* also while the track column is selected you can drag and drop tracks into the exact order that you want! Stuart
