When you sync your ipod with itunes a icon should pop up that looks like 4 lines. It is the fourth one from the right. You can also just right click on your ipod in the source section of itunes and options will be there as well.

It should be done. It will say "iPod update complete" in iTunes. You then need to hit the eject button to unmount the iPod. The disconnect message will change to "Ok to disconnect."

If you're using USB 1.1, it will take a long timeto update. If it is still updating the message at the top will flash updating and the song it's updating. If the message is just do not disconnect, you only have to eject it.

You need to look in iTunes for the okay that transfers are done. Look in the now playing window. If it says update is complete. It is safe to eject your iPod. The Do Not disconnect flashing means don't pull the plug before you eject!
