Insufficient credits?

Through various gift cards and gift certificates, I've purchased from iTunes, never supplying a credit card.

My current balance is $5.09, which is correct as far as I can remember, from the gift cards I've received and gift certificates I've purchased.

However, when I tried to buy Pulse just now (for $4.99, $.10 less than the balance), I'm told that I don't have enough credit, and it asks me to supply financial info.

Anyone else have a problem like this?

That would likely be because of Tax.

There has never been tax before (in New York, anyway)... unless games are taxed and music isn't.

It does depend on where you are, I didn't use to have tax when I was using SD as a billing address, changed when I moved to Iowa and later CO.

Interesting enough, there was no tax charge when I purchased the game....

I don't know what to tell you. Sometime there is some mess ups in keeping track of the total. Perhaps log out and log back into the music store. Perhaps it didn't update last time you purchased something?

I signed out, and it still doesn't work. It gets right to the "Purchasing Phase" part (in the status bar).

Is it possible that they might have an incorrect price registered with their system? Unlikely, but possible.

Check For Purchases gave me nothing. My latest iTunes receipt doesn't show the game on it as purchased.

I'm sending a message now.

Anyone who criticises Apple's e-mail support obviously didn't do it right:

Quote:
Dear Eric,

It appears that your area doesn't tax music downloads, but it does tax game downloads. On 04/25/2007, you purchased some music, videos, and the iPod Game iQuiz - You were taxed 8¢ on that purchase (M437139228).

iTunes Store purchases include sales tax based on the billing address. A list of states that charge tax on music downloads is available online:

http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/musicstore/buy/

There is no sales tax on the purchase of an iTunes Gift Certificate, Gift Card, or Allowance. When any of these are used toward purchases made on the iTunes Store, sales tax will be added to the total if the billing address is in a state where digital downloads are taxable.

Because the iTunes Store is for personal, non-commercial use only, customers are not eligible for tax exemptions for titles purchased at the iTunes Store.

The iTunes Store Terms of Sale is available for review here:
http://www.apple.com/legal/itunes/us/sales.html

I hope this information helps. Thank you for choosing The iTunes Store and have a great day, Eric.

Sincerely,

Franke

Well that is an interesting perdicament. No tax on Music, but they tax your games (software)

Interesting to know...

Wonder what the tax actually comes to. was iQuiz a cheaper game?

Interesting enough CO supposedly charges tax for the games, but I didn't get taxed.

iQuiz is only $.99, and sales tax in my county is 8%.
