Apologies if this is already covered:
If I'm manually adding files to my iPod from iTunes, is there a way to look at my iTunes Library to know what files I have and have not moved to the iPod? |

Probably the easiest way to do this would be to click on the ipod icon in the left hand tree, and see what's on your ipod.
Why not make playlists or smartlists, and manage it that way? That would be much easier than individually importing files...It would be very easy to figure out what was and wasn't on your ipod by checking the playlists...

Say more please: exactly how would playlists help? (I already load whole albums at a time, so it seems i'm organized the same way you suggest)
also, has anyone figured out how to rip directly to the iPod? - this would REALLY solve my problem!

There is no way to rip directly to the ipod.
You can browse the ipod contents by the side bar. Click on your ipod's name and choose to view by date added (get this option by apple + j or ctrl in windows?) This is how I check to see if I've already put tunes to the ipod or not see pic below. Before transferring a song I double check to see if it's already on the ipod. I guess my question would be why are you manually putting tunes on when you have the tunes already in your iPod library.
Basically, if you've got all your songs on your PC that you have on the iPod (or your iPod has a subset of what's on your PC), then you really should be syncing. Either thorugh the entire library or through a set of selected songs or selected playlists. Adam

Yeah, that's what I was alluding to--I think you're better off setting up playlists and synching that way. Or, just uncheck what you don't want to go to your ipod, and synch. I would think that would be a heck of a lot quicker than doing it manually, but some things are more fun manually than automatically...
Playlists, and especially smartlists, just make music management a breeze.
