all my music is gone

hello-
i was listening to music on my itunes a few days ago i turned off my computer and when i turned it on the next day all of my songs on my itnes were gone. i still have all of my songs on my ipod, but i dont have any on my itunes. i plugged my ipod in to my computer and itunes recognizes it, but i dont know how to put the songs back on to itunes.

Are the actual files gone, or has iTunes just lost track of them? Look inside your \My Documents\My Music\iTunes\iTunes Music folder -- anything there? If the files are still there, it's just a matter of re-adding them to iTunes (like, by dropping the iTunes Music folder onto the iTunes window).

If the computer's files are gone, then you'll need to get the iPod's files. Read this for the how-to.

when i try to add the songs i get a message that says "the itunes library cannot be imported. you do not have enough access privelages for this operation"

So, are your music files still there? (as in my first response)

How are you trying "to add the songs"? Dropping a folder-full of song files onto iTunes window, or using "Import" from File menu, or using "Add" from File menu, or what....
