Itunes causing computer to hang?

So ever since I installed the last itunes update (about a month ago I think) I've noticed some changes. For starters, itunes has been hanging a lot. I play a song and all of a sudden teh pc acts frozen for a minute or so. For instance teh status bar that shows the song progress appears to be going no where, if I'm in the itunes store and I play a song I can't toggleback to my music until the 30 second clip is over and it even goes so far that I can't click over to fire fox of explorer in windows.

Another thing is I have the laptop set so when I close its lid it goes in to sleep or whatever. Now, if itunes is open, not only won't sleep, the display never even turns off. Also when I go to shut down the laptop I get an error message almost every time from itunes.

Should I try uninstalling/reinstalling itunes? Anything special I need to do before doing so? Guess I'm wondering if it will affect my ratings or library at all.

Anybody else experiencing anything similar since the last update?

Looks like a few others are having similar problems in another thread. I replied there as my situation is pretty similar.

Uninstalling and Reinstalling will not affect your library at all. If you're going to do this uninstall quicktime too.

Apple has details on what to do to truly uninstall it: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93976

Have you backed up your iTunes Library this week? If not, you are risking losing your music and playlists....
