Help With New Paul Mccartney Album Please!

Can anyone help me with something that's been driving me crazy?

The iTunes Store pre-order for the new McCartney album "Memory Almost Full" came with the bonus of having the first single available immediately. However, when the rest of the album was available this Tuesday it did not download the second track (the single "Ever Present Past") because I already had it. So I changed the tags on the single so that it matched the entire album (for example, under "album" it was "Ever Present Past - single" instead of "Memory Almost Full") and also made sure to tag it as the second track out of 13. However, for some reason iTunes refuses to place the old track in sequence with the rest of the album. It places it at the end of the album, even though the file has the same info as the rest of the tracks. I've checked it a billion times under every field and it's identical. Why is it doing this???? It even does it on the iPod.

The only suggestion I can tell you is to check the info in the sorting tab in general info on the song and make sure that Artist and Album Artist match the same as the rest of the album. I had a problem with a song like this once and once I changed that it went back into the album correctly and plays fine now. I hope this helps, if not I don't know anything else but maybe someone else here has a idea too. Good luck and let us know what happens.

I had this problem with Maroon 5's album.

I was unable to resolve the issue, even talking with customer service and getting them to let me "redownload" it. Getting the new download, tagged correctly still sorted wrong, except now to the TOP of the list. Infuriating.

I had checked all tags. Question. Does the single you got ahead of time have different music label information than the remaining tracks? Find the labell information on the summary tab of the songs, next to the album art under the song, time, etc.

The only way to fix this, I am afraid is to burn to a CD in the correct order and then reimport it into iTunes...

In the meantime you could make a specific playlist for the album and make the order correct there and transfer to the iPod. You could then access it correctly through the playlist.

In iTunes, if you click on the album column until it selects either album by artist or album by year, you will find it will now sort correctly in iTunes (but will still be wrong on the iPod).

This is a major bug creeping in iTunes and I can't figure it out.

Thanks to everyone who responded so far. I did check the "sorting" tabs to make sure everything matched and it does.

"studogvetmed": It DOES have different music label information. This was the only thing I noticed last night that was different than the other tracks. The single has a copyright icon and then "2007 MPL Communications LTD....." as opposed to the album tracks which simply has the copyright icon and no label information.

Fiddling around with the album column did bring up "Album By Year" which is a great way to sort albums chronologically. I didn't know that iTunes could do that. Doing it this way will make the tracks sort correctly. Unfortunately, you can't do it with the iPod and that's a shame. I suppose I'll create a playlist for the iPod but it's STILL annoying.

Very annoying. The Tech guy I talked to said they are trying to prevent this in future...

I should look at atomic parsely an see if it can edit whatever field controls the label and see if placing them together helps, or using it to strip the tags and then repopulate them fixes it...

Well I just tried to make the copyright boxes match for all songs using an editor that can take it and though I appear to have got it changed, I'm still not getting any love... So either I haven't got it to match just right, or the copyright isn't the key issue. Darn.

the problem is the geID atom... they have to match, so far i havent been able to change this atom.

I downloaded the Paul McCartney album too, and it's messed up in a few ways.

• Ever Present Past didn't download, because I already had the single
• There are 3 different album tags (Single, Double Disc Version and Deluxe Version) - easily fixed
• There are 2 different album artwork images, BOTH of which are bitmapped compared to the single - easily fixed, but still . . .
• The digital booklet looks like the title "Memory Almost Full" is corrupt - I don't think that is intentional

Hmm, I haven't had this problem with the few albums I pre-ordered.

When I pre-ordered Tori Amos' new album, I got the single "Big Wheel" right away. Then when the album was available, it let me download the song again.

Maybe this is just an American iTunes issue?

deathsolitude: i also pre-ordered tori's album, and the big wheel track download again when the rest of the album was available (that's supposed behaviour), but in some cases like NIN and Killers.. the single wasn't included with the album, which caused the problems stated in this thread

jhart71: All 3 problems you listed about the McCartney album were noted as well, I also think the booklet looks corrupt. Is it supposed to load on Preview, by the way? Do only interactive booklets appear under a book icon on iTunes? The booklet is just another file at the end of the album. Never had a booklet from the store before so not sure if this is normal.
