iTunes Gift Certificate question

I'm trying to use the gift card now. But what does this mean?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Do you want to redeem your Prepaid Card?
You are about to credit XXX's account, xxxxx@xxx.com
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Is it adding the amount of the gift card to my credit card?

** Notes **
I've have never use the store before. I use my credit card to get an account just so I can get the album arts.

No, it's letting you know which iTunes account is going to get the gift amount "credited" to. That means that the XXX amount will be available to the account xxxxx@xxx.com for use to buy things with.

As long as it's the right account you are putting the card into, you'll be golden. From here on out your credit card won't be charged when you buy stuff in the store until XXX is gone

Once you redeem the Gift certificate, the amount will show up in a box next to your account name (see attachment), as long as there is money in that box, your credit card won't be charged, unless there is not enough money to cover the purchase in the box, if this happens, you'll get a warning. You can just keep applying gift cards or Gift certificates to your account and never use your credit card.

Well I have no $ on that card at all. Don't ask me why. So I hope iTunes don't draw any money from it which my bank will penalyze me for it.

As long as you don't try to purchase something above your Gift Certificate amount credited to your account you won't have any charges drawn against the card.

Redeeming a card does not charge your credit card (unless you are actually attempting to BUY a gift certificate which of course is another can of worms).

I now understand everything.
Thanks again studogvetmed, really appreciate it.

btw, it sucks you can only listen to AAC on iTunes. I prefer Winamp more.

The you can only purchase AAC from the store, iTunes has support for MP3 codec to play in.

You can always burn your purchases to a disk and rerip to MP3 if you wish.

True. But quality won't be that good. Since it's a rip from a low bitrate in the first place.

If you rerip to the same bitrate you'll need rabbit ears to pick up the difference. If you don't like the terms you don't have to buy
