iTunes auto-startup...make it stop!

I've searched here, Apple's support site, and Google.

When I boot my PC, iTunes now starts up and start playing the first song in my library automatically.

There is nothing iTunes related turned on in MSConfig, there is no shortcut in the Startup folder.

Help! How do I turn this massive annoyance off?

Theres a setting in iTunes that will turn it off. I'm at work right now so I'm not sure exactly, but its something like "Load iTunes on iPod mount"

But the problem is not on iPod launch, it's on computer startup.

Thanks for the tip, but I looked and couldn't find any option like that in the iTunes Preferences.

strange...does this happen while you have your iPod connected to the PC and you boot up or all the time?

well, it happened to my wife's profile (on XP) since install. I didn't have an iPod at the time.

I bought an iPod, installed it, the autostart now happens on all profiles. However, I've removed the iPod from the system (it was returned to store)

I Need Help Too - Turn Off Itunes Auto Start

I didn't see any solutions posted to the previous question...how do I turn of this function? iTunes starts with the start up of the computer and there appears to be no way to have this NOT happen?

Can't find anything on website (I'm not surprised).

Help!

Try using msconfig to keep iTunes from loading at startup.

Question similar problem

the only difference is that iTunes doesn't start on startup... it just starts up randomly. At first it was only when I was playing an online game like Heroes or Everquest... but today it's started doing it just while I was browsing the internet for a solution! I've noticed that every time it starts like this, the programs AppleMobileDeviceHelper.exe, distnoted.exe, and iPodService.exe all start as well and can be seen in my processes. It's almost like it thinks I have an iPod or iPhone and is trying to sync up... although I have neither. Somebody HELP! It's slowing down my computer and driving me crazy! The other day it started playing music by itself too... I think it's only done that the one time tho. I should also mention that in my iTunes preferences I have automatic syncing turned OFF, so even if I DID have a mobile device... this should not be happening. I have run numerous virus and spyware/adware scans looking for malware that could be causing this, but I have come up clean every time, and no other programs except for iTunes are taking their launch into their own hands.

Sorry to bump a mega old thread but this page came up as the first relevant google result for this problem, so I am posting the solution here so others can see it.

I installed itunes 9.0.3.15 on a windows XP and now every time I start the computer itunes starts up. To fix it run regedit and navigate to:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/Microsoft/Windows/CurrentVersion/Run

Click Run in the left pane, then in the right pane you will see an entry called iTunesHelper, right click it, select delete then click yes when it asks if you are sure. Now itunes will stop loading on startup, or it did for me anyway
