getting a new (3g) 20gb iPod within a week or so.
wondering if iTunes can be used on a windows PC to sync music, create playlists, configure, etc... with the iPod. the apple site says musicmatch is to be used, but there seems to be discussion of people using iTunes on PC (not just as a music player, but to move music to the iPod) in these forums?? |

That is a little weird - and on a related (somewhat) note - my sister just gave her oldest 3 kids 20GB ipods for early Xmas present (to aid them during long journeys they're making during holidays - nice Mom eh!!). They're PC folks. I was quite surprised to find that MusicMatch was the software on the CD - no itunes to be found. Though clearly they could've been sitting around on the shelf for a while, itunes for windows has been out for a while.
Had a hard time explaining to them why they'd probably be better off downloading itunes - so will be interested to see how it goes for them.

it doesn't seem to be related to the fact that the iPods are old. the apple site, right now, says that musicmatch is to be used for windows and iTunes for mac computers??
i have iTunes and would much rather use that to sync music to the iPod, than to use musicmatch. |

Everyone is using iTunes...you should be as well. Stay away from MMJB.
Perhaps that is there because of some contractual deal they had w/MMJB--who knows. **edit**: that didn't come across the way I meant it to. What I meant to say, is that when Apple released iTunes, they announced it for Windows users to sync with. I've no clue (other than what I mentioned) as to why they actually still have MMJB on the web site. But you're free to use whatever program you like. ![]() Adam

Now I'm curious. Can you provide the URL for the Apple page that says to use MusicMatch? I just looked at www.apple.com/ipod and it states:
With iTunes 4, autosyncing the iPod with a Windows PC is as easy as it is on a Macintosh. |

First thing -
You CAN use iTunes on a PC to do EVERYTHING Second - The Apple site has some conflicting information. I just realized the confusion - in the main area of the site (www.apple.com/ipod) iTunes is properly listed at the software to use. HOWEVER (and this is where my confusion came from) in the FAQ's area (#2 - http://docs.info.apple.com/article.h...num=60920#faq2) it states that MusicMatch is to be used on the PC. I assume this is b/c at some earlier point in time, MusicMatch was the only choice. Case closed.... |

It's a good point that you make Adam. Apple probably had some sort of contract w/ MM and therefore they are still req'd to package MMJB w/ the ipods and not itunes yet.
Although again, when you go on apple's site all you really see are things regarding itunes. Maybe they're just cheap and have an over abundance of MMJB CD's and will use those until they run out before they start shipping itunes for windows PC's. |

i just got my iPod and it came with iTunes ONLY.
no mention of MM. again, it seems that their FAQ is old, the main areas of the site (as well as the new packaged units) come and work with iTunes. |
