Question Double albums into One Album?

Question about managing files with Itunes regarding 2 CD sets.

How can I make it so that when I rip a double album using Itunes, the album will show up as one entire album as opposed to 2? Meaning, with the Beatles White Album, how can I rip both cd's, and then have it put on my Ipod with itunes, so that when I go click on the album on the Ipod, all tracks will show up With disc 2 following disc 1 automatically? Thanks in advance for answers.

Rip both CDs separately then in iTunes call up the first disc of the album and right click on the album title and select get track names. Tag as Disc 1 of 2. Do the same for the 2nd disc tagging as Disc 2 of 2

I noticed that when I ripped The White Album and in iTunes renamed it "The White Album (Disc 1)" , etc. (cddb called it "The Beatles", which is it's real name, of course)...well, iTunes "get info" automagically has it as disc 1 of 2. Must've gotten that from cdb.

MY question, tagentially on the same topic, is:
In iTunes "get info" screen, when I highlight multiple songs, like when I highight an entire album to change genre for all the songs at once, each of the fields have a checkbox next to them. What is the purpose of advantage of checking those boxes (i.e disc 1 of 2 have check boxes next to "disc" x and "of disc y". I don't have an iPod yet. I'm worried that if these aren't checked that iPod won't see them or somthing? Thx,
Edit: This is probably better suited as a separate thread...

the checkbox will allow you to select which tags you want to do a mass update on. (it has no effect on whether the tag actually exists or not)

for instance, you probably don't want to update all the track numbers to the same value, so you'd leave this checkbox unticked.
So just make sure you only have checked the fields you want to clobber with identical info across all the files you have selected.

Scoobsean's advice worked on one double album, and not another. Can someone give me a the proper way of making double albums into one on Itunes?

Carlo. Make sure the album names are exactly the same, ie, get rid of the "CD1" in the album name, or any trailing spaces in one of them, etc.

Cheers,
..tim

That last suggestion didn't make a difference.

a few questions about this. if it's a multi-disk, multi-artist set and i do this, how will the thing show up in the itunes movie directory assuming that i have itunes manage my library?

also, what is the compilation tag for exactly?

I would do it like this:

Let's say you have a 2 cd set:

Artist: Made Up Group
Album: Best of Made Up Group (Disc 1)
There are 4 tracks on this disc.

Best of Made Up Group (Disc 2)
There are 5 tracks on this disc.

To change this so it appears as one long album, remove the (Disc 1) and (Disc 2) from the album names.

Then, renumber the tracks on disc 2 from 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 to 5, 6, 7, 8, and 9. They'll fall into place after 1-4 that were on the first disc.

carlo. dont know what's up then... this workded fine for me.

Mike, I dont think you need to renumber the tracks on disc 2. the ipod is smart enough to put them in the correct order, ie Disc 1 tracks 1,2,3,4, then disc 2, 1,2,3,4..

cheers, timmo.

what about sending them off to winamp and other players? itunes at the moment is the only software mp3 player that recognises the cd tag :'(

As long as the double album was brought over with tags or desciptions that show it's a double album (i.e "get info' shows it's 'disc 1 of 2" for instance) then just highlight the whole list of somgs in both albums, right click to "get info", then rename the album (removing any reference to disc 1 or whatever), but make sure there is a "2" in disc number "blank of 2". That way iTunes will know it's two albums, will make sure each song is still in the right order (Julia is still track number 17 of 17 in disc 1 of 2 for The White Album, for instance).

If the two albums come over less related than that, then just highlight the entire set of songs (as above) rename them one album name, and then go about individually tagging each song as 1 of 26, 2 of 26, etc. (assuming, in this example, that there are 26 songs on the two discs).

Oli - right click and highlight all the tracks on the album, select "get info" and check the box "part of a compilation". All the tracks should then show up in one album.
