Does Itunes need Quicktime in order to work?

i don't use quicktime at all, and don't really like having it on my pc.

if i uninstall it will itunes still work properly?

maybe it uses quicktime to convert the music when you
drag it into itunes...?

Yes, iTunes requires Quicktime's codecs.

Does Quiktime have to be my default video player?

I upgraded to iTunes 6 and Quicktime 7.0.3. The player is not so great. I set all my defaults in Set Program Access and Defaults to RealPlayer and Quiktime always opens instead. I can manually save as and open with RealPlayer but this sucks. How can I disable Quiktime from opening automatically and restore RealPlayer as my usual default?
