first, people are complaining that itunes is making copies of all their music. this is easy to fix: in the preferences, in the advanced tab, uncheck "copy files to itunes music folder when adding to library."
this is weird, because i used to have it so that i could load everything from one folder and it would all copy over into my itunes music folder but the library itself would only have one copy. but i recently reinstalled windows and now when i try to do it, i have duplicates of all of my songs. i like having everything in the itunes music folder because it stays organized that way, but having duplicates of all of my songs is infuriating. isn't there some way to have things copy over but not have the library load both copies?

Something that always fixes problems your having would be just to go into the settings and/or prefs and mess around, look for buttons, click stuff - see what does what and maybe you'll find a new tool or a way to fix a little problem you have. First post - woo.

Here's my question though, am I going to want to stick with the iTunes I have on my installtion disc or go to iTunes 5.0? I've heard some pretty crazy stories with 5.0

iTunes before player........

Can I go to the Apple board and download the new iTunes 6 and start to organize my music before I get my iPod 5G?

Thanks,
Jim

I'm about to do the same. I had to reformat my computer, now I will download iTunes 6 and start again.

Will it import my songs with it's original ID3 tags? I'd spent hours re-editing these tags on my old iTunes.

But now when I add my mp3s, it won't recognise the edited tags?

I had save the original iTunes and iPod folders...do they contain a file that remembers the edited tags?

P.S. Yes, I had to only drag and drop about 10GB at a time...otherwise iTunes would "hang" on me....darn PC.

Does anyone know how to manage your iTunes on a network so that once added on one computer the same songs, lyrics, album art etc. automatically appear when accessed on the secound computer? Or do I have to manually add the new file with my iTunes on each computer? I have two desk tops and two laptops that I routinely use so an automatic up date would be great.

However ive heard that when i dock the ipod onto my pc it will erase all the music on the ipod thats not on my pc (aka the music that my friend will put on it). This has probably already been answered but i havent got time to read thru it all. any help? cheers

How in heavens name do you add new songs onto your ipod without deleting everything that's already in there?!
