Sort large albums into extra categories

Hello. I've done a search and can't find anything relating to this.

Does anyone know if its possible to add extra categories into itunes so this will reflect in the ipod. That probably doesnt make sense so i'll try to explain.

I want to put some dance albums on, some of these have around 60 tracks on, which is a pain to scroll all the way through if you want the song at the bottom.

Artist--->Dance--->"Album Name"--->60 music files

What I would like is to have an extra category to sort into seperate CD's if you can so it would be...

Artist--->Dance--->"Album Name"--->CD1--->20 music files

Or any better ideas on organising dance albums would be much appreciated.

Cheers

While you cannot creat nested albums like this, it is possible to give tracks "disc" numbers. You can tag each subset of tracks you want as "disc 1 of X, disc 2 of X, etc." While it won't give you a nice, orderly set of just 20 songs -- the album view will still show all sixty tracks -- they will be divided up a little nicer with disc 1s 20 tracks first, disc 2s 20 tracks second, and so on. It's worth a try.

Your other option is to Change the album name itself "Album Name (Disc 1)" and "Album Name (Disc 2)". You'll get separate album listings for each set of songs, but you won't have the master list of 60 songs consolidated into one album.

However, I find that the iPod scrolling mechanism is so accurate and fast that I never have issues scrolling. I have 7000 plus songs on my iPod and never feel slowed down in getting to the one I want.

Ive done the naming of the seperate CD's to put them in order. Good idea about the "Album Name : CD1" though. I didn't think of that. I might just have it as it is. Like you said about the scroll wheel, it is fast and precise. And if you don't have a problem scrolling through 7000 then i'll shut up about 60

Cheers mate.

Doesn't the CDDB do that for you? It has done on all mine, in fact I have gone the other way and removed them and altered the track numbers to run through to the last Disc set.

Cheers

I don't use CDDB. Well I think my winamp uses it to recognise the names off CD tracks but thats it. Didn't know it could be used like that... recommended? Not that I mind typing the names of tracks out myself. Quite anal about getting them all named right

Absolutely! I personally use EAC to rip but iTunes and most (if not all) music library progs will access the database.

Try it, you wont look back.

I use a program called CDex to rip my CD's to mp3 to put on the ipod. I've just had a closer look at the menu buttons across the top and seen a CDDB option... i'll give that a go for sure next time i've got a CD to convert.

Cheers
