How many times can a iTMS file be burned to a CD?

For example, Music Match limits you to 5. The iTunes help files says that any PLAYLIST containing songs downloaded from the iTMS can only be burned 10 times. But it doen't say, anywhere, how many times the individual FILES can be burned.

Is there a limit? Could I just keep making new playlists when I reach the 10 CD limit and burn more CDs? I wish the help file was less ambiguious.

To make matters worse, the "fine print" says you have the right to make however many copies you want, so long as it's not for commercial use or to violate copyright.

I have no idea how many times you can, but if there is a limit, then just re-rip to the same bitrate as the file was from the CD. Get rid of DRM real quick.

I am a mac iTunes user and I was compelled to register to answer some of the questions floating around.

You can burn any file as many times as you like, there is only a limit on the playlist itself. So if, for example, I had a list of my favorite mc hammer songs, I would be able to list that particular list 10 times, but I can still burn Cant Touch This as many times as I feel like it in any other list. I believe, but am not sure, that you can proceed to burn those songs if you shuffle the order.

It is so you cannot mass produce your own mix cd or an existing album. This is flawed because you can just make dupes of a cd wiht other programs... I think it was apple's way of giving something in the way of drm without alienating the customer...

What a farce. When will RIAA realize that we are going to do what we want with our music. Now that iTunes has come we can all have what we want. We get quality tunes for a fair price and RIAA earns an honest buck. But god#### it if I want to make a zillion copies of my songs/playlists/CD's I'm going to #### well do it and RIAA shouldn't give a ####.

*LOL*! Spirited argument, koolout. I like that.

Yeah - we will always find a way to do the things we really want to.

Dude, what's the problem? How many times would you legally need to make more than 10 copies of a single playlist? And as we said, there'e a number of ways around it anyway (placing a 1-second blank track at the end of the disc would give you another 10 burns, for example). And there's no limit on the song itself. It seems extremely reasonable to me. I admire your passion as well but really, I think it is no big deal.
