How do I delete my iTunes library?

Sorry, this might be a stupid question, but how do i delete my iTunes library without deleting all of the songs from my computer? my library is a mess, so i'd just like to start over and get it organized by putting all the music in again. thanks in advance.

You can ctrl "A" to highlight the whole library and then right click and "remove". When it gets to the part of sending them to the recycle bin you will have to say NO keep the files.

I would recommend instead of doing this though ... tagging everything correctly.

This is quite easily done and can be a work in progress.

Just concentrate on an artist at a time. Fix up from Artist "A" today, maybe "B" tomorrow or something like that.

Just select the song or songs and right click .. get info .. and fill in the info.

It would be a lot quicker than your idea of starting from scratch.

it depends on how messed up your tags are. if you have a large library and your tags are virtualy empty, you could try using a mass/auto tagging app like tag&rename or the godfather.

The easiest way I know of is the following.
The advantage of using this method is that the music is still on your computer even though your iTunes library is now left empty.

1. Close iTunes

2. Open the following file path on your computer:

C:\Users\OWNER\Music\iTunes

3. As always, make a backup incase you ever need these files again.

In the iTunes folder are two files you need to delete.
They are:

iTunes Library.itl
and
iTunes Music Library.xml

Itunes should make new files by the same name in the same filepath when you restart it.

4. After deleting them, restart itunes. You will see that the library now contains no music, and you can start adding files from scratch. You can even add some of the same songs back to the library, assuming you know where the music files on your computer are stored.

I hope this helps.
