Cannot "drag and drop" music to iPod through iTunes

I generally use Ephpod to transfer music to my iPod. It hasn't been a problem until now. The songs go, but will not play on my iPod.

I though I'd just eliminate the middleman and just transfer song directly from iTunes, but I can't. When I try to drag and drop the songs, I get the "no" symbol (circle with a line through it) on the iPod icon in the sidebar of iTunes.

Also, a song that I bought through iTunes and transferred using Ephpod formerly worked, but does not now.

Any ideas? I'm going nuts!

I think when iTunes is set up to automatically sync to your iPod, you can't do drag and drop operations.
