Exclamation emac/superdrive problems

I own a brand new apple emac. This came with os X panther edition, and did not have the superdrive (dual layer cd/dvd writer).
Last week I bought a Pioneer DVR-109 combo drive (factory model) for my mac and installed it. Right after I installed the drive, I installed os X tiger, and my computer had no problems reading the dvd. I am able to copy music from disks, but I am still unable to burn disks. I tried to burn a playlist off of iTunes, and everything goes fine up until the last part. It sits there and says "burning disk..... finishing", and it never finishes. Does anybody know what's wrong? I dont think I need software because someone told me that my mac is already programed to burn disks, but may lack the right hardware.
