Can this be done? I have many songs with 3+ "extra" seconds at the beginning or end that are there for seemingly no apparant reason. Can I whittle the track down within iTunes somehow or do I have to get a bunch of other programs to do it? It seems like an easy fix, but I'm not sure how to do it. Also I have one particular song- " Just like honey" from the Lost in Translation soundtrack. It ripped as 12:37 because it first contains the Jesus and Mary Train version, then has precicely 8 minutes of dead space, then has I guess a secret "hidden" bonus track of Bill Murray performing the karaeoke version at the end. All this on one track. I would like to split it into 2 separate tracks and eliminate the dead space in between. Can I do this in iTunes? I really don't want to have to buy any new software just to perform a little mild sprucing up of song times. I tried GarageBand too..that doesn't seem to work. Any advice?

easily fixed in iTunes.
select the song. command+i to get info about the song. in the third tab, you'll be able to set start and stop time. If you want to shave off 3 secons from the front, set start at 0:03. To shave off the silent from the track in the end, set stop time to 3:47 or where ever the music ends. enjoy. |

THANKS!
![]() I KNEW it could be done!!!! I just wasn't sure how. I fixed the few songs with superfluous time endings/beginnings, but here are the few problems I encountered. I found that changing a song length in "get info" does in fact change the actual playing time of the song, but the listed time length in that field does not change. So the 3:03 song that you've just clipped 3 seconds from will still display as being 3:03 minutes, even though it only plays for 3:00. A way around this is reimporting the song, and changing the info BEFORE the import. I did this and made the neat split with the "Just like Honey" song mentioned above. It's now in 2 neat, perfectly timed clips. Both new clips reflect accurate times However, they're both out of order from the original compilation. I wanted to just tag the "new" Bill Murray clip on the end, as it's the last song on the album, but it's ordering them both at the beginning when not "by artist" or "by Song" etc. I even changed in options the"track 15 of 16," "track 16 of 16" box. " Actually to every song as I added an extra track to the final count. This doesn't make a differece. Does anyone know a way around this? Simply replacing the "old" long version with the "new" edited one? In the exact same spot? In the same order as before? Must you reimport the song over again to have the "real" time display in that field?

You have the following choices:
1-I found when the songs are out of order and you need them to be in the same order that they are on the album, yu have to reimport the entire album. Itunes will not allow you to just move the songs in the order that you want them in. 2-What you can do is put the songs in a playlist that you make and you will be able to put the songs in the correct order you want them in and play them that way. 3-There is no other way I have found to get the correct time to be displayed in the library.

Yeah, I kind of figured that was the case. So here's what I did in case anyone else wants to do the same. I created a playlist in the order of the original album with the "new" song at the end. All the times are correct since I imported them that way the second time around. Then I burned the whole thing onto a CD. I dumped the original album from iTunes once I saw that the CD was OK, then I re-imported the new version of the album, thereby replacing it. Now it's ordered the way that I want in the original library and not just in a playlist. And the times are still accurate.
A roundabout way, but effective all the same.
