I recently converted from XP to Windows 7 and and then allowed "Reorganize Files" for the Media Library. After, i found a number of orphans music files in the the Media Library (and not in the Music file of the Media Library.
Here i made a mistake. Rather than copy the orphans into Automatically Add to iTune, i simply copied to the Music Folder of the Media file. In some cases the Orphan files were empty but in some cases they had music files that didn't seem to be in the Media/Music file. My thought was that by transferring them to the Media/Music file, i'd assure that all were accounted for. The mistake was that i should have copied to the Automatically Add to iTunes folder. Now i am wondering what has to happen for itunes to rescan the media folder and accept all that it within it. All thoughtful advice welcome! |

In theory, you should be able to re-add your Media Folder and only the stuff that is not in your library will be added.
Before doing that I would make a backup of the iTunes Library.itl file (usually located in My Music\iTunes). Then try to do the above. If you end up with tons of duplicates, then close iTunes and copy the backup of iTunes Library.itl back on top of the one in the iTunes folder. Then you'll need to find another way to add the orphans.

OK - unless there are other suggestion, i will try this.
Can you clarify how to "re-add" the Media Folder? I want to be very clear on how this would work, esp. sequence. Thanks |
