I cant sync my ipod with my pc

I cant sync my ipod with my pc. i tried connecting it to several computers using several cables but though it does charge, it cant seem to be synced. itunes does not recognize that a device has been connected, so i cant sync music, photos or anything else.

my device is ipod touch 4. version is 4.2.1

what can I do?

Is this only on your computer or on all systems with iTunes? If it's all systems, that points to there being something wrong with the iPod. You can try restarting it by pressing and holding the power/sleep button (upper right) until you see a red button on the display saying "slide to power off." Do that, turn it back on, and plug it in. You can try entering DFU mode with the iPod plugged into your computer, you will have to use Google to find the steps to complete that.

No. DFU mode is just that, a specific mode. Your iPod will likely need to be restored after that in order to ensure that it can be synced in the future and clear up any problems it has now. That is why you never, ever, ever, ever store content solely on an iDevice. ALWAYS have a backup of some sort whether it be your iTunes library on your computer or on a $30 250GB external hard drive.

OK. Unplug the iPod from your computer, put it into DFU mode, then plug it in when you see the icon on its display (making sure to use a different USB port). Next you can check to make sure all of the connectors on the bottom of the iPod are visible and aren't broken (same for the USB cable) if that doesn't work. That's all you can do without actually replacing the 30-pin connector on the iPod (which may or may not be the issue). Take it back to where you purchased the iPod (if you did it within the return period) or give it back to the person you bought it from (assuming you picked up the iPod recently from someone).
